What’s the best way to bid a project? By the project? Now, if you’re working for an ongoing copywriting client, I personally believe bidding by the project is best. If you’re unusually fast, you can bid on a par with other writers, but end up with a better hourly rate, and earn more over the course of the year.

Whenever I teach on nonfiction book proposals, I open up the conversation by talking about market potential ($) and how to convince agents or editors that your project has it. She had an agent who was not at all enthusiastic about her next project-in-progress about the power and freedom of living single.

And yet I was reflecting on this this morning thinking, this is good because I've been publishing since 2008 when I published my first book.

I was worried that I didn't have anything to add to the millions of other books on writing craft, but it turned out to be useful for some people, especially those who write out of order and are discovery writers. I've been selling direct since 2008 when I started online, but it's always been an afterthought for book sales. Not at all.
