Writing beautiful prose isn’t something every writer nails in the beginning. Strong prose often reads like poetry. The term “purple prose” refers to writing that might be a bit too flowery. That’s not always a bad thing—lots of readers and writers love flowery prose. Writing beautiful prose is similar to writing poetry.

Finding your spot on the shelf is a matter of finding that sweet spot between “proof of concept” (books like yours that have done well) and “white space” (how your book will be different). One: writing for one person makes your writing very specific, which is the mark of all strong prose. Is there room for it? Let’s face it.

Change the structure: Turn prose into bulleted lists, or create headers to make the content scannable and easier to understand. Sentence structure: Rearrange the order of clauses and phrases or use new subjects and verbs.
