One of the biggest barriers facing a new writer – a blogger, a novelist, a copywriter – is the self-knowledge of just how far away you are from their ideal. When I first started copywriting, I was afraid to show my work to anyone. I was afraid to show first drafts to my colleagues. I was afraid to show fifth drafts to my clients. I was afraid to show my work to my peers, even though they had offered to look at my work and help me figure out how to make my writing better.
This guest post is by Neil Patel of KISSmetrics. Do you wish you knew the secret to writing popular blog posts? You know, the posts that get over 200 comments, 20 backlinks, and hundreds of shares on social networking sites? Over the past five years I’ve started two blogs. The first one became a Technorati top 100 site, and now I’m working on Quick Sprout.
On October 26, 2010, Shereef Bishay – of BetterMeans and the recently launched ClassParrot – told the HackerNews community about some copywriting work I did for him: “Show HN: I asked an HN member for feedback and she blew my mind” on SlideShare Requests for copywriting help flooded my inbox over the course of the […] The post How 1 HN post compelled me to leave Intuit and create a new startup for startups appeared first on Copywriting for startups and marketers.
Remember kindergarten? For every goal you reached, like writing your name or finally spelling C-A-T, you got a gold star or a new pencil. In grade school, there were Principal Awards and End of Year Prizes. In college, you earned certificates of merit, achievement prizes, and academic scholarships. Even in the nine-to-five grind, it’s still possible to earn Employee of the Month or some token of esteem for 10 years of service.

This guest post is by Satrap of BlogStash.com. What is the best way to drive traffic to my site? What’s the fastest way to generate traffic to my site? What’s…? We all want to know the best way to drive the greatest amount of traffic to our sites. However, the truth is that there is no best or fastest way to drive traffic! What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa.
Yesterday I wrote a post titled Introduction to Autoresponders. It recommended them as a tool that bloggers should consider as a means of driving traffic, deepening reader engagement, and increasing profits. I also showed how to set up an autoresponder sequence of emails in just a few easy steps using Aweber’s service. Today I want to suggest a number of practical strategies for actually using autoresponders alongside your blog.
This guest post is by Beth Hayden of Blogging with Beth. You wake up in a cold sweat. You bolt upright and gasp for air. You’ve just realized that your blog has only one true fan—and it’s your mother. Image used with permission Dear old mom reads all of your posts. She comments every week with supportive but embarrassing encouragement. She even calls to tell you what a great job you’re doing with your site and how much she loves your writing.

Today I want to talk about a tool all bloggers treating their blogs as a business should at the very least be familiar with—and should probably be using. It’s something that has the potential to drive significant traffic to your blog in the coming years. It could also add significant profits to your blog in that time. It is a tool that can be used in a variety of ways.

This guest post is by Michael Schuermann of Easy Hiker. English is the language of the Internet. If you are the monoglot citizen of a country like Denmark, you are—through no fault of your own—restricted to an audience the size of metropolitan San Francisco. Even for the native speakers of a major European language such as German, English is the only available ticket to a global readership.
This guest post is by Marelisa Fábrega of the Abundance Blog at Marelisa Online. If you keep telling yourself that you’re going to start blogging on a regular basis, and that intention has failed to materialize, it’s highly probable that procrastination is the culprit. My favorite definition of procrastination is the one provided by Timothy Pychyl, Ph.D., creator of the popular web site procrastination.ca , so I quote it often.

This guest post is by James Penn of AcceleratedNicheProfits.com. A few weeks ago, on the ProBlogger Community Boards , I started a new forum topic titled, “Help Me Monetize 1,000 Visitors Per Day.” My natural health blog had experienced some rapid traffic growth, and had grown from 80 visitors per day to over 1,000 visitors per day using these seven strategies.
This guest post is by Farnoosh Brock of Prolific Living. I thought I had my social media game covered on all fronts: Twitter, check. Facebook, check. Even Skype, which I like to include as a necessary tool for connecting real-time, check-check! Until I realized that I am missing one giant piece of the puzzle, and it is not even a new kid on the block.
This guest post is by Danny Iny of Firepole Marketing. Our blog is less than a year old. We started Firepole Marketing less than a year ago, and we’ve done pretty well with it over that time. A lot of people know who we are, and what we do. I’ve even been dubbed the Freddy Krueger of Blogging. And while we’re not at the scale of a major site like Copyblogger, we still do pretty well, to the point that we make a decent amount of money online, and occasionally even help others to do the same.
This guest post is by Kelly Kingman of eBook Evolution. Last year, I took part in a writing challenge called National Novel Writing Month, which is also known as NaNoWriMo. The challenge? Write 50,000 words—all during the 30 days of November. Until then, my personal length record hovered around 10,000 words for a single project. Amazingly, I did it.

One of the types of posts that I’ve created quite a few of over the last few years here on ProBlogger is the “talking head” video post—like the one you see above. In this video I talk a little about some of the benefits of using video in this way on your blog. In a couple of future videos I’ll be giving some tips on how to create these videos (or at least show you how I make mine), plus some ideas about how to talk to camera without feeling completely awkward.
This guest post is by Tea, The Word Chef. Admit it: the last time you had important company over was the last time you really cleaned your house. Whether it was a visit from your mother, or a group of friends for a dinner party, you paid extra close attention to making things presentable for your guests. And if you’re even a bit neurotic (like me), you caught yourself worrying about the littlest things.
This guest post is by Peep Laja of Traindom. Blog monetization is a tough challenge for a lot of people. In this post I’ll help you overcome it. The best way to make money with your blog (even when your traffic is low) is by selling your own digital products—especially online courses that teach people to do or achieve something. Content marketing (blogging, social media) is the way to position yourself as an expert and build relationships with your audience.
This guest post is by Nivin of SecretMarketingPlaybook.com. So, you’ve decided to start a blog? By now I’m sure you would’ve noticed that every man, woman, and their dogs seems to have their very own blog. That leaves you with the unenviable task of answering the ultimate question for any blogger: Why should your audience care? How well you answer the question will be a strong determinant on how successful your blog turns out.

They say one of the best ways to improve your craft (whatever that may be) is to learn from the greats. The experts, the legends, the Mohammad Alis and J.K. Rowlings of the field. So before I started my blog, I took notes from the best. What made the popular blogs great? Was it the fantastic design? The voice of the writer? The consistently useful content and easy subscription buttons and successful marketing?
As I reflect upon the times when I’ve felt most “effective” as a blogger (and perhaps as a human), I think it’s times when I’ve built these three things into life. Space. Perhaps it’s just me and my personality, but I find that if I don’t create space…. to reflect on life. to consider how I’m feeling. to analyze what I’ve experienced. to ponder priorities. then I tend to allow the busyness of my life determine what I do, rather than letting w
This post is by Chris Wise of Expressionables. Product review blogs are one of the best ways for ecommerce sites to spread the word about their products and build backlinks to increase organic search traffic. That being said, there are thousands of small-to-medium-sizes product review blogs on the Internet all vying for the opportunity to secure free products for reviews and giveaways.
This guest post was written by Gordon McLachlan of 8 Gram Gorilla. I’ve been both an avid blogger and a huge advocate for blogging for many years now. But until recently I’ve never had any personal “success” to be able to back up my claims that blogging isn’t just an excellent pastime, it’s also a tremendously useful business resource.

This guest post is by Jocelyn Ann. Tired of haphazardly, randomly struggling to find guest blogging opportunities? Or finding yourself stressed to the max because you’re unable to locate your next guest-post goal for the month? You’re not alone. Most bloggers don’t know where or how to search properly, and if they’re trying to search at all, generally end up with dead-end leads.
This guest post is by Danny Iny of Firepole Marketing. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post here at problogger.net about how Firepole Marketing makes money. I explained that even though we’re less than a year old, we’ve already made over $20,000, and that over half of that came from offline sources. We wanted to know how other bloggers make their money. Is it all online, or do they make their money offline as well?
This guest post is by Chris The Traffic Blogger. My hands were shaking like crazy and I had to focus very hard on entering my bank account information correctly. Just minutes prior a buyer had been approved for my website on Flippa (see the actual auction page here ), and I had to somehow manage to calm down to fill out my escrow payment options. The bid was an astonishing $50,000!
This guest post is by Daniel Smith of Propaganda House. You know who I’m talking about: that friend who makes you wince whenever you see them pop up on your phone, or makes you dread social events that you know they’re going to be at. They’re like Jerry’s friend Joel Horneck in the Seinfeld episode “ Male Unbonding “—the person who never shuts about themselves, and doesn’t pay attention to a single word you say.
Speaker: Neal Boornazian, President and Nancy Harhut, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer - HBT Marketing
Direct mail has consistently remained a powerful tool in the marketer's arsenal, but in an age of digital dominance, its effectiveness hinges on the strategic integration of behavioral science. 💡 When you incorporate powerful behavioral science principles into your direct mail marketing strategies, you can prompt the hardwired decision-making shortcuts your audience relies on — and that automatically unlocks new avenues for engagement, conversion, and brand loyalty.
This guest post is by Peter Lawlor of the B2Web Internet Marketing Blog. One of my favorite methods of monetizing my blogs is by promoting products as an affiliate. As an affiliate, I have the opportunity to learn all I can about a product I promote, and share what I know, including likes and dislikes, with my readers. I’m constantly experimenting with ways to pre-sell products, with a focus on quality content and dressing up reviews with eye-catching and informative techniques.
This guest post is by Matthew Weber of T3kd.com. When I first started blogging in early 2010, I was relatively new to social media. I had been a member of Facebook since 2004, but I was not using it to promote myself or my content: I was using to stalk old girlfriends. When I finally joined Twitter in 2009, I was unsure what the purpose of it was. Sure, I used Twitter.
It’s a paradox. The pundits encourage bloggers to find a niche, think differently, and say something unique and valuable. Then they give us standard formulae for producing content, as if your unique voice, approach, readership, and topic will be neatly addressed by a preselection of three or four formats. The formats. In editing the content at ProBlogger and FeelGooder, I receive posts in the same few styles over and over and over (and over).
This guest post is by Aman Basanti of Ageofmarketing.com. Since launching my blog on the psychology of buying in mid-May, I have often wondered whether I am missing something; whether there is a secret to growing the traffic on my blog that I do not know about. Am I not commenting on the right blogs? Am I not writing enough guest posts? Am I not submitting my links to the right social media sites?
