Hi, I’m Susan Greene, a freelancecopywriter based in Orlando, Florida. As someone with longevity in the field, I’ve been interviewed on many occasions by reporters and bloggers writing stories about copywriters. Learn from my 25+ years of experience how to succeed as a freelancecopywriter. Susan Greene.
Saying “no” can be challenging, especially for freelancers. I used to think passing on a gig seemed counterintuitive because I needed to pay the bills and put food on the table, even if it meant working extra hours. The best thing about being a freelancecopywriter is you can choose the jobs you want to take on.
Without all that stuff, without all the buying and selling and the luxuries of modern life, we’d live in caves, hunt our food, and die before 30. The REAL copywriters are good writers. We don’t need all the stuff we buy, but whoever said life is just about what we “need”? Writing sales copy is noble and necessary.
Fortunately for me, I’m not in it to get rich, it’s simply a way to establish public credibility and build my own intellectual property portfolio. It’s an ongoing press release, article marketing, a free full-page newspaper ad, it’s an interactive portfolio, etc. And I’m not too worried about it either.
Using your example of someone looking for advice on freelancecopywriting, someone might find 2 or 3 sites/blogs/products that all offer to help move them forwards. People will always shop around a little for the “best advice&# or an “expert&# they think fits with their world-view and requirements.
